Sew Saturday: apple bib

I made this little cute apple bib for my little girl. I designed the dies to be used for appliqué but you can also cut paper for cards or scrapbooking or even felt for bean bags like these....

Or this Tooth Fairy Pouch....

Sew Saturday: Divided Basket for Baby

I really enjoy making baby gifts.
I used noodlehead's Divided Basket tutorial.
It's unique in the fact that you'll learn how to make two sections in the lining of the basket. I used Pellon Craft Bond for the lining interfacing and Fusible Fleece for the outer fabric. The basket is sturdy ....and stunning, IMHO. The lining fabrics are from JoAnns and the outer home dec fabric was found at a fabric depot in Williamsport, PA. The bias tape was a freebie from an Etsy shop order. I love how the fabrics work together. The pocket on the front has three sections. Great for diaper cream, mommy's lip balm, etc. Needless to say, it was hard to give up this pretty little gender neutral basket. However, I know it will be very useful. It's great to have diapers and wipes handy when you're not in the baby room or you could keep it in the car. We keep ours in the living room since our baby's room is on another floor. I'll share that one soon too.

By the way, you can make your very own Build-a-Rag Doll (like the one in the basket) with metal cutting dies from Clear & Simple Stamps. When you order it comes with a full How-to Tutorial that I wrote. Base Dies, Girl Dies, Boy Dies.

Party Favor: modern baby shower

The first stamp set I ever made for Clear & Simple Stamps was this one.... Baby Shower. I love how you can mix and match collections to create the exact theme you envisioned. Not only did I use an image from Collection 2 (mr. elephant) but I used a more recent set from Collection 9 designed just for party favors called Gifted.

Sew Saturday: handmade retro metro bag

I was big into Thirty-One bags until I started sewing. I just can't allow myself to spend that kind if money anymore when I know I can TRY to make it for less. Not to mention the fun of picking out your own fabrics!

I finally tried my hand at making my own version of a Thirty-One bag.  The Retro Metro bag costs $55 plus more for handling, shipping and taxes. My version cost me a total of $10 at most. I found the main tan linen type fabric at my local Not Just Linens for $4/yd. Most of their fabrics are $9/yd. (still great)! Love that store.

I used double fold bias tape for the first time too. What a time saver!  I embraced the stitched raw edge of the main fabric and used it to my advantage by letting it show for some extra detail. I have a little stash of Joel Dewberry's Notting Hill Collection that I used to dress up some natural colored webbing for the shoulder straps.

Another first for me was sewing French Seams along the sides so the raw edges are completely hidden. They look like the seam on your jeans. Amazing!

If anyone is interested I could share my measurements, tips and maybe even a tutorial.
